AQA B- Section B Essay - The Student Room.
Negative feedback Essay Homeostasis of Animals and Plants Many animals, including humans, can regulate their body temperature through a process called negative feedback. The temperature within the body is regulated to be maintained within a certain range. Animals capable of this type of homeostasis are deemed homeotherms (1).
The possession of separate mechanisms involving negative feedback controls departures in different directions from the original state, giving a greater degree of control. Students should be able to interpret information relating to examples of negative and positive feedback.
Negative feedback is activated by the body when something such as body temperature, pH of the blood, sugar concentration in the blood, gas concentrations, and water balance are not within very strict boundaries. It is a part of homeostasis. The diagram below shows how negative feedback helps keep the blood temperature between 35.8 and 37.8 degrees celcius, which are the limits the human body.
Negative Feedback Negative feedback causes the body to respond in such a way as to reverse the direction of a change and this tends to keep the internal environment at a constant, thus maintaining homeostasis. Sensors and receptors are what bring about a reaction to ensure conditions within the body remain favorable.

Negative feedback is how homeostasis keeps this system throughout the body in balance. The process of negative feedback occurs when the receptors in the body detect something wrong or off balance; this then will tell the receptors to send a message to the effectors, the effectors then will cause a reaction in the body back to the healthy environment.
